Problem
At 300 feet, the TJ Tower, a historic building in downtown Birmingham, stands tall over the city. Working on roofs that high up carries some particular risks, and it’s often difficult for building owners to find a service provider to meet the need. Unfortunately, the tower’s roof was in exceptionally poor condition, jeopardizing the structure as a whole. Patchy repairs and partial fixes were only going to stave off the worst for so long.
The building’s roof was in dire condition when we first saw it. Our account manager met with the owners and decided on a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roof.
Solution
The owners of the TJ Tower reached out to Blair Commercial Roofing in the nick of time. Our years of expertise let us provide a solution: a TPO roof. Thermoplastic polyolefin is the fastest-growing segment of the industry and would provide a cost-effective roofing solution. Not only would the roof solve all waterproofing issues, but it would also improve the building’s energy efficiency.
Result
The new TPO membrane immediately restored the functionality of the roof, ensuring water damage would no longer plague the structure. In addition, because TPO membranes are ENERGY STAR-qualified and Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC)-certified, the roof bestowed greater energy efficiency on the entire facility. Plus, to top it off, TPO comes in tan, preserving the tower’s aesthetics from the sky.
